In 1998, Sabet and Suzy Kuj began their missionary work in Sudan under Safe Harbor International Relief who responded to a devastating famine in Tonj by bringing food and medical relief to the starving Sudanese. They not only administered physical aid; the Safe Harbor relief team showed compassion as they shared Christ’s love by giving the hope of the gospel message. Sabet, a native of the Dinka tribe, joined Safe Harbor to aid in translation and logistics.
In his own words, Sabet testifies of God’s purpose for his life. “God spoke to my heart through the missionaries’ love and obedience. The words of John 10:10 became clear to me. Jesus has life to offer here in Sudan among my people, and just as I need Christ in my life, the people of South Sudan need to hear about God’s love.”
Suzy Kuj was a British immigrant living in the United States at the time she watched a video of the famine that was ravaging the Sudan. As a result, she began helping Sudanese refugees by raising funds for the famine. Through her efforts to effect change, she began to sense God calling her to Sudan, so she joined a Safe Harbor relief team that was headed to Tonj. It was during this short-term mission trip that she saw how God could use her life for His purpose. A short time later, she obeyed God's call on her life to be in full time ministry in Sudan. The Lord joined Sabet and Suzy in marriage and they moved to Tonj to begin their mission work there.
Since 2001, the ministry has been providing medications for the local clinic as well as their vaccine campaign. In 2006, they opened a primary health care centre in Tonj and have the only qualified medical staff and stocked pharmacy for miles.
In 2007, Sabet and Suzy founded In Deed And Truth Ministries, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit. And in 2008, they opened the doors to their Discipleship Training Centre for Sudanese pastors.
